Thistle Tankard
Thistle Tankard
The humble thistle has served as the National Flower of Scotland for over 500 years. This mysterious and prickly plant has appeared throughout our nation's cultural history everywhere from poetry to the sports strips of the rugby team and even the police uniforms.
One legend has it a sleeping party of Scots warriors were saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the enemies trod on the spiky plant.
His anguished cry roused the slumbering warriors who duly vanquished the invader and adopted the thistle as their national symbol.
Although there's no hard evidence, it certainly is a wonderful tale!
Fittingly, Hugh Macdiarmid's A Drunk Man Looks at a Thistle is an epic and poetic tale worth reading with your dram.

Try a few of our favourites: John o’Groats Brewery, Cuillin Brewery (Skye), or Black Isle Brewery.
